Fasten off leaving tail, thread onto needle and come up through the outside of each front loop of the last rnd, pull tight to close hole, then go through a loop that's close by, don't pull through all the way, leave a loop and go through the loop from behind, pull tight to make a knot. Weave end inside the piece and trim excess. Use your needle to push end inside.

Beak:

In orange:

Rnd 1: 4 sc in mr (4)

Rnd 2: sc in every st (4)

sl st in nxt st, fasten off leaving tail. Sew to face between rnds 6 and 7, in the middle of the eyes. Pick up loops of the yellow stitches and go through both loops of the orange stitches on the last rnd. Fasten off in the same way as on the body, weave both tails through to the inside.

sl st in nxt st, fasten off.

Feet:

Cut a 30cm long piece of orange, thread onto needle, come up near the bottom of the body (where the decrease rounds start), don't pull through all the way, tie a knot around a loop to secure, then make 3 short diagonal lines all coming from the same point by weaving in and out, then weave through to the other side and repeat for the other feet, fasten off by making a knot around a loop near where the lines come out of. Weave both ends inside.

Hair:

cut 3x 12cm long pieces of yellow. Fold in half so that the ends meet, push hook into the middle of the magic ring at top of head and come out through a space in the next round, pull the loop through and then wrap both ends around the hook and pull through the loop on the hook. Pull tight to secure. Repeat this twice more, attaching them around the mr. Then trim all of the ends together so that they're approx 1.5cm long.

Rnd 1: 6 sc in mr (6)

Rnd 2: inc in every st (12)

Rnd 3: (sc in nxt st, inc) x6 (18)

Rnd 4: (sc in nxt 2 st, inc) x6 (24)

Rnd 5: (sc in nxt 3 st, inc) x6 (30)

Rnd 6: (sc in nxt 4 st, inc) x6 (36)

Rnds 7-10 (4 rnds): sc in every st (36)

Rnd 11: (sl st in nxt st, hdc in nxt st, dc in nxt st, tr in same st, dc in same st, hdc in nxt st, sl st in nxt st) repeat all around, sl st in last st. Fasten off and weave tail in to back of stitches on the inside.

Now you can sit your chick in the shell, and you can make another one so that he has a friend if you'd like. I'd love to see a photo of your chicks, you can share it with me on instagram by tagging @laura_wilson01
