Mini crochet gingerbread man- free pattern

Materials needed:

• DK yarn in beige, white, red and green

• 3mm crochet hook

• Stitch marker

• Scissors

• Yarn needle

Abbreviations (US crochet terms):

• mr- magic ring

• st- stitch

• rnd- round

• sc- single crochet

• inc- increase

• invdec- invisible decrease

• ()- repeat instructions in brackets the number of times stated

The gingerbread man is made in continuous spiral rounds using a stitch marker to mark the start of every round, and it's flattened so it's double layer with no stuffing. The legs, body and head are all made in one piece, then the arms are sewn on. Begin with the legs:

Legs- make 2:

Rnd 1: 6 sc in mr (6)

Rnd 2: (sc in nxt st, inc) x3 (9)

Rnds 3-6 (4 rnds): sc in every st (9)

Fasten off on first leg but don't fasten off on second leg. Trim tails from magic ring.

Joining the legs:

Place marker in last st you did, join to first leg with a sc in the st to the left of where you fastened off, sc in nxt 8 st of first leg, sc in nxt free stitch on second leg, sc in nxt 8 st (18)

Continuing with body and head:

Rnd 1: sc in every st (18)

Rnd 2: sc in nxt 4 st, invdec, sc in nxt 6 st, invdec, sc in nxt 4 st (16)

Rnd 3: sc in every st (16)

Rnd 4: sc in nxt 3 st, invdec, sc in nxt 6 st, invdec, sc in nxt 3 st (14)

Rnd 5: sc in every st (14)

Rnd 6: sc in nxt 3 st, invdec, sc in nxt 5 st, invdec, sc in nxt 2 st (12)

Rnd 7: sc in every st (12)

Rnd 8: (sc in nxt 2 st, invdec) x3 (9)

Rnd 9: (sc in nxt 2 st, inc) x3 (12)

Rnd 10: (sc in nxt st, inc) x6 (18)

Rnds 11-13 (3 rnds): sc in every st (18)

Rnd 14: (sc in nxt st, invdec) x6 (12)

Rnd 15: (invdec) x6 (6)

Fasten off leaving tail. Thread tail onto needle and close hole by coming up through the front loop only of each stitch from the outside, pull tight to gather the stitches together, to fasten off: find a loop nearby and go through it but don't pull through all the way, leave a loop and go through the loop from behind, pull tight to make a knot. Weave tail in through the head, cut the yarn close to the edge of the work and use the end of your needle to push the end inside.

Arms- make 2:

Rnd 1: 6 sc in mr (6)

Rnd 2: (sc in nxt st, inc) x3 (9)

Rnds 3-6 (4 rnds): sc in every st (9)

Fasten off leaving tail for sewing. Trim tails from magic ring. Sew arms to the sides of the body starting near the neck and going through both layers and picking up loops from the side edge of the body. Fasten off in the same way as before, weave in ends.
