Rnd 18: (sc in nxt 6 st, invdec) x3 (21)
Rnd 19: sc in every st, sl st in nxt st (21)
Fasten off leaving short tail, weave tail into the back of the stitches on the inside of the last rnd. Leave end pushed inside or trim it close to the edge of the work.
Mouth:
Cut a 30cm long piece of pink yarn, tie a double knot near the end of it, thread onto needle, go through inside of volcano and come out under an eye leaving one round in between, make a short diagonal line going across 2 rounds and going in where the middle of the eyes are, make another diagonal line in line with the other eye and go back in at the same point to make a wide V shape for the mouth. Find a loop from a stitch on the inside edge at the top, go through it, leave a loop and go through the loop from behind, pull tight to make a knot, this fastens off. Push tail inside.
Lava:
Push hook through the FLO of the sl st with the hook pointing outwards from the volcano, pull up a loop of orange, (ch 6, starting in the 2nd st from the hook: sc in nxt 5 st, sl st in nxt 2 front loops, ch 4, starting in the 2nd st from the hook: sc in nxt 3 st, sl st in nxt 2 front loops) repeat all the way around (10 pieces). When you've done the last set of 2 slip stitches, make another sl st in the front loop of the st that the brown sl st is in. Fasten off leaving a tail long enough to sew all of these pieces down.
Weave the short orange tail into the back of the stitches on the inside edge. Thread long tail onto your needle and weave through to the inside, flatten the next piece down on top of the outside edge and push needle through to the outside where it will meet near the end point, go through a loop on the back of the sc at the end of the piece, then go back through to the inside and come back out where the next piece will lie flat (the shorter chain). Repeat this all the way around, weaving in and out to sew each piece down flat against the volcano. When you've sewn all of them, find a stitch on the inside edge to fasten off on in the same way as before. Weave tail into back of stitches on inside edge.
Push stuffing inside the volcano all the way down until it's fairly firm, then add more to stick out of the top of it so it looks like steam.
The volcano is finished! I'd love to see a photo of yours, you can share it with me by tagging me on instagram @laura_wilson01
