Back piece:

In green:

Rnd 1: 6 sc in mr (6)

Rnd 2: inc in every st (12)

Rnd 3: (sc in nxt st, inc) x6 (18)

Rnd 4: (sc in nxt 2 st, inc) x6 (24)

Rnd 5: (sc in nxt 3 st, inc) x6 (30)

Rnd 6: sl st in every st (30)

Fasten off leaving short tail.

Assembly:

Lay the back piece down with the wrong side facing you, take 3 petals and place them on the back piece with the right side of them facing you, line up the end of the black piece where the magic ring is, pin them in place with equal sized gaps in between each one.

Use the black tail from the slip knot to sew the black edges to the green piece by picking up green loops and going through black loops at the sides of the row ends. Sew the second black row down from the yellow row, there will be some black visible at the back. The yellow rows should line up with each other. These 3 petals are the outer petals. Fasten off by going through a loop, don't pull through all the way, go through the loop from behind and pull tight to make a knot. Weave in all of the ends underneath the black pieces, trim excess close to the edge, use the end of your needle to push end in.

Then place the remaining 3 petals over the green gaps and sew the black edges to the black edges of the other petals (so that they're slightly overlapping them and on top). These are the inner petals. Weave in the green tail.

Arrange the petals so that the inner ones are in front and the outer ones are on the outside, they might curl over but if you flatten them out they should hold their shape.

Stem:

Take the florist wire and measure 5cm from the end, bend it at this point so that it's close to the long piece. Push the long end through the middle of the magic ring, then push the short end through a space close to it, with 1 st in between them. Pull through all the way. Now cut a 40cm long piece of yellow, tie 3 knots near the end all on top of each other. Thread onto needle and go through the edge of the green piece and pull through until the knot is stopped on the inside. Weave through to the middle of the flower and make 3 lines all coming from the same point. Weave through to the back piece and fasten off around a loop in the same way as before.

Pinch the short end against the long end, take your florist tape and tightly wrap it around both pieces, moving it down at an angle as you go down the length of the entire piece of wire. The tape becomes sticky when stretched. When you get to the bottom, leave about an inch extra tape and cut it at an angle.

Now take the green yarn and leave several inches from the end and at that point start wrapping it tightly around the top of the wire (the flower end), making sure there aren't any gaps and the whole piece of wire is covered. The stickiness of the tape will help the yarn to stick to it. When you get to the end, wrap the inch of tape around the bottom several times and trim excess yarn.

Now thread the start of the green yarn onto the needle, make sure all of the tape at the top is covered by wrapping it around if needed, go through a loop on the back piece nearby, then go through another one and fasten off in the usual way. Weave end through back piece. Now you can arrange your petals and place your flowers in your favourite vase!
