Sewing needle that's big enough for the yarn

Stuffing

Pins to help with sewing

Row 3: ch 1, turn, (sc2tog) x2 (2)

Row 4: ch 1, turn, sc2tog (1)

Fasten off leaving long tail. Weave tail from the slip knot through the back of the stitches on the first row, then weave the long tail through the ends of the rows until you get to the bottom row, curve the ear inwards slightly, pin to head and sew them on by picking up loops from the head and going through the remaning chain loops. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Nose and whiskers:

Cut a 55cm long piece of light pink yarn, tie a double knot in the end, thread onto needle, come up through the neck opening, come out in between the eyes on the rnd below the eyes, make 3 stitches to make a triangle, then fill in the triangle with lines going through above the top horizontal line and going back into the bottom point each time. Weave through to the side of the nose and make 3 lines for whiskers, weave through to the other side of the nose and make 3 more whiskers. Come out through the neck opening and find a loop on the inside of the last round to make a knot around to fasten off. Tuck tail inside.

Body:

In grey, stuff as you go:

Rnd 1: 6 sc in mr (6)

Rnd 2: inc in every st (12)

Rnd 3: (sc in nxt st, inc) x6 (18)

Rnd 4: (sc in nxt 2 st, inc) x6 (24)

Rnd 5: (sc in nxt 3 st, inc) x6 (30)

Rnd 6: (sc in nxt 4 st, inc) x6 (36)

Rnds 7-9 (3 rnds): sc in every st (36)

Rnd 10: (sc in nxt 4 st, invdec) x6 (30)

Rnds 11-13 (3 rnds): sc in every st (30)

Rnd 14: (sc in nxt 3 st, invdec) x6 (24)

Rnds 15- 17 (3 rnds): sc in every st (24)

Rnd 18: (sc in nxt 2 st, invdec) x6 (18)

Rnds 19-20 (2 rnds): sc in every st (18)

Rnd 21: (sc in nxt st, invdec) x6 (12)

Fasten off.

Front legs- make 2 the same:

In grey:

Rnd 1: 6 sc in mr (6)

Rnd 2: (sc in nxt st, inc) x3 (9)

Rnd 3: (invdec) x3, sc in nxt 3 st (6)

Rnds 4- 14 (11 rnds): sc in every st (6)

Fasten off leaving tail for sewing. No need to stuff. Fold the feet so they point upwards slightly (fold at the round where the decreases meet the first round of sc stitches, the decreases are at the front). Trim the excess tail from the magic ring. Flatten the end and pin the legs in place, 6 rnds down from the top of the body, and space them apart so there are 2 stitches in between each leg. Make sure that the feet touch the ground when you put it on a flat surface, it might help to flatten the bottom of the bottom.

Thread tail onto needle and go through both layers (3 stitches), sew to the 6th rnd down from the top of the body by picking up loops from the surface of the stitches, then weave through the inside of the leg underneath, come out in the middle and sew to the body with one stitch, in a straight line with the top of it, then weave through again and come out near the ankle, make one final stitch, fasten off by going through a loop but not all the way, leave a loop and go through it from behind, pull tight to make a knot. Weave end through body, trim excess and use the end of your needle to push end inside. Repeat for other leg.

Back legs:

Make 2 the same as the front legs, fold the feet upwards, then fold the rest of the leg in half so that it's touching the other side of the leg (making a knee joint). Push a pin through both sides to keep it folded together, then pin them to the sides of the body so that the top of the knee is on the 11th rnd down from the neck. Check that the feet touch the ground and that the cat can sit without falling over. Flatten the end so it's flat against the body and sew through both layers to sew that end down to the 15th rnd down from the neck. Then weave the tail through and sew the inner edge to the body, keeping that pin in place to keep the leg folded as you sew. Take the pin out when finished, fasten off in the same way as with the front legs, weave in end.

Sew head to the body, fasten off and weave in ends.

Tail:

In grey:

Rnd 1: 6 sc in mr (6)

Rnds 2- 21 (20 rnds): sc in every st (6)

Fasten off leaving tail. Curve the end slightly, flatten other end and sew to the back of the body, on the same round as the back legs, then weave through for a few rounds and sew a couple of stitches so it's upright and touching the back. Fasten off and weave in end.
