Head:

In yellow:

Rnd 1: 6 sc in mr (6)

Rnd 2: inc in every st (12)

Rnd 3: (sc in nxt st, inc) x6 (18)

Rnd 4: (sc in nxt 2 st, inc) x6 (24)

Rnds 5-10 (6 rnds): sc in every st (24)

Insert eyes between rnds 6 and 7, 6 st apart.

Rnd 11: (sc in nxt 2 st, invdec) x6 (18)

Rnd 12: (sc in nxt st, invdec) x6 (12)

Fasten off leaving tail for sewing. Stuff.

Beak:

In orange:

Top part:

Row 1: ch 5, starting in 2nd st from hook: sc in nxt 4 st (4)

Row 2: ch 1, turn, sc in every st (4)

sc around 3 edges in the spaces between the ends of the rows until you get back to the top row where the ch 1 is (12 st around edges)

Fasten off leaving tail for sewing.

Weave short tail into back of stitches, trim excess. Pinch the top middle part inwards.

Bottom part:

Row 1: ch 4, starting in 2nd st from hook: sc in nxt 3 st (3)

Row 2: ch 1, turn, sc in nxt 3 st (3)

sc around 3 edges in the spaces between the ends of the rows (10 st around edges)

Fasten off leaving tail for sewing. Weave short tail into back of stitches, trim excess.

Thread tail of top piece onto needle and sew to the head in between the eyes on rnd 7, making sure the outside of the stitches is facing outwards, pick up loops from the surface of the head and go through the Vs on the beak part. Fasten off by finding a loop nearby, go through it but not all the way, leave a loop and go through it from behind and pull tight to make a knot. Weave the tail inside the head, trim excess and use the end of your needle to push end inside. Pinch the top again to keep the shape.

Then sew the bottom part on to the round below with the right side of the stitches on the outside (underneath), fasten off and weave in end.

Body:

In yellow:

Rnd 1: 6 sc in mr (6)

Rnd 2: inc in every st (12)

Rnd 3: (sc in nxt st, inc) x6 (18)

Rnd 4: (sc in nxt 2 st, inc) x6 (24)

Rnd 5: (sc in nxt 3 st, inc) x6 (30)

Put marker in last st you did as normal.

sc in nxt 9 st, work in rows now:

Row 1: ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in nxt 6 st, take out marker, sc2tog (8)

Row 2: ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in nxt 4 st, sc2tog (6)

Row 3: ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in nxt 2 st, sc2tog (4)

Row 4: ch 1, turn, sc in nxt st, sc2tog, sc in nxt st (3)

Row 5: ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in nxt st (2)

Row 6: ch 1, turn, sc in nxt 2 st (2)

Place marker in last st you did.

sc in nxt 7 spaces between the ends of the rows down the side (starting in the same space you did the last sc), sc in nxt 21 st, sc in nxt 7 spaces between the ends of the rows up the other side, sc in last 2 st (37) Put marker in last st you did and continue working in rounds.

Rnd 1: In BLO: sc in nxt 13 st, inc, (sc in nxt 4 st, inc) x2, sc in nxt 12 st, inc (41)

Rnd 2: sc in nxt 14 st, inc, (sc in nxt 5 st, inc) x2, sc in nxt 13 st, inc (45)

Rnd 3: sc in every st (45)

sc in nxt 5 st, ch 9, starting with the st before the stitch marker on the other side: count 6 stitches and sc in this sixth st (making sure the right side of the stitch is on the outside), sc in nxt 6 st (taking the marker out to do the last st as you usually would) (21)

Put marker in last st you did.

Tail end:

Rnd 1: (sc in nxt 5 st, invdec) x3 (treat the chains as normal stitches and do the invdec in them as normal, using the BLO of each chain, leaving the front chains to use later on) (18)

Rnd 2: (sc in nxt 4 st, invdec) x3 (15)

Rnd 3: (sc in nxt 3 st, invdec) x3 (12)

Rnd 4: (sc in nxt 2 st, invdec) x3 (9)

Rnd 5: (sc in nxt st, invdec) x3 (6)

Fasten off leaving long tail, thread tail onto needle and come up through the front loops only of each st on the last round, pull tight to gather stitches together and close hole. Find a loop nearby and go through it but not all the way- leave a loop and go through the loop from behind, pull tight to make a knot. Weave the tail through the body, cut the yarn close to the edge of the work and use the end of your needle to push end inside.

Now we have 33 st remaining on the middle part of the body and 9 chain loops so we have 42 st in total.

Decreasing on the main part of the body:

Rnd 1: With the tail end on the right hand side as you hold it, push hook in the corner sc stitch (next to the chains) pull up a loop of yellow, ch 1, sc in same st, sc in nxt 4 st, invdec, (sc in nxt 5 st, invdec) x5 (use the remaining chain loops, count 9 to make sure you go into the right spaces, treat them like normal stitches and invdec as normal) (36)

Place marker in last st you did. Begin stuffing.

Rnd 2: (sc in nxt 4 st, invdec) x6 (30)

Rnd 3: (sc in nxt 3 st, invdec) x6 (24)

Rnd 4: (sc in nxt 2 st, invdec) x6 (18)

Rnd 5: (sc in nxt st, invdec) x6 (12)

Rnd 6: (invdec) x6 (6)

Fasten off leaving long tail and close the hole in the same way as you did on the tail end. Weave end inside body and cut the yarn and push end inside.

Squash the body down so it's flatter, thread the tail onto the needle and go through the stitch next to where you fastened off. Pin the head to the body and when you're happy with the position, sew it on by picking up loops from the surface of the stitches and going through the V's. Fasten off in the usual way and weave the tail through the body, trim excess and push end inside with the needle.

Wings- make 2:

In yellow:

Row 1: ch 5, starting in 2nd st from hook: sc in nxt 4 st (4)

Rows 2-5 (4 rows): ch 1, turn, sc in every st (4)

Row 6: ch 1, turn, (sc2tog) x2 (2)

Row 7: ch 1, turn, sc2tog (1)

sc down edge in the spaces between the ends of the rows, then sc in the remaining chain loops, and then sc down the other edge in the spaces between the rows, sl st in the first st from the last row.

Fasten off leaving tail for sewing. Weave short tail into stitches on the back, trim excess.

Pin the wings to the sides of the body, and sew just the long edge on one side and slightly down the front curve, leaving the rest free. Fasten off and weave in end through body, trim excess and push end inside.
