Fasten off leaving a short tail.
Join the lid to the basket: Crochet through both layers in beige, starting by going through the nxt beige stitch and then into the stitch nxt to where you fastened off on the green (48) sl st in nxt st. Don't fasten off, ch 50, sl st in a st on the opposite side of the basket, approx half way, fasten off. Pull up a loop of beige in a st on the basket at the half way point between the first handle, ch 50, cross over the other handle and sl st in the half way point on the other side. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Vines:
In green:
ch 38, starting in 2nd st from hook, work along the chain: sl st, sc, hdc, 2 dc in nxt st, sl st, work on other side of chain: sl st, 2 dc in nxt st, hdc, sc, sl st. That's the first leaf finished, then: In BLO: sl st in nxt 6 st on the leaf, sl st in nxt 8 chains (the first one goes in the chain that looks tight, closest to the leaf), ch 6 and repeat same instructions for second leaf, sl st in nxt 8 chains (the first one goes in the ch nxt to the one that looks stretched out), make third leaf, sl st in nxt 8 chains, make fourth leaf, sl st in nxt 8 chains.
Now ch 44, work your way back up the chain repeating the same instructions, when you get to the end you'll have 6 ch remaining, leave this unworked and then ch 44 again and repeat, leaving 6 ch in between each vine. Repeat until you have 6 vines with 4 leaves on each.
Fasten off leaving a tail that is approx 4 times the width of the top chain on the vines, find the increase stitches on the last round of the green piece, thread tail onto needle and sew the top of each vine to each increase point: make a couple of stitches and fasten off by going through a loop but don't pull through all the way, leave a loop and go through the loop from behind, pull tight to make a knot. Then weave through the inside to the next increase point and sew each one on in the same way, no need to sew the chain. Weave in ends.
Flowers:
You can alternate the colours to make different flowers, I used white and 3 shades of purple.
I made 4 flowers for the top and 4 more to sew on the vines.
In the middle colour:
Rnd 1: 6 sc in mr, sl st in first st, fasten off (6)
Rnd 2: Pull up a loop of the petal colour in the same st you sl st in. Ch 1, make 2 hdc stitches in the same st, ch 1, sl st in same st, (ch 1, make 2 hdc stitches in nxt st, ch 1, sl st in same st) Repeat section in brackets all the way around until you have 6 petals. When you get back to the beginning, sl st in the first st from rnd 1 (the base of the first petal). Fasten off leaving tail. Weave in all the short ends into the back of the stitches on each flower.
Sew 4 flowers to the top green part by picking up loops and going through the loops from rnd 1 of the flower, leave the petals unsewn. Fasten off and weave ends through the basket.
Sew flowers to the vines in between the leaves, fasten off and weave the ends into the back of the flowers.
The hanging basket is finished, I'd love to see a photo of yours, you can share it with me by tagging me on instagram @laura_wilson01
