Check out my Youtube video tutorial for this pattern: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1KrIoDbVzE

Materials needed:

DK yarn in white, yellow and green

3mm crochet hook

Stitch marker

Sewing needle

Scissors

18 gauge florist wire- comes in standard length- 36cm

Green florist tape (this is crepe paper with wax on it which becomes sticky from the warmth of your fingers and when stretched)

Abbreviations (US crochet terms):

st- stitch

ch- chain

sl st- slip stitch

sc- single crochet

inc- increase

invdec- invisible decrease

FLO- front loops only

Middle of flower:

In green:

Rnd 1: 6 sc in mr (6)

Rnd 2: inc in every st (12)

Rnd 3: (sc in nxt st, inc) x6 (18)

Rnd 4: In FLO: sc in every st, sl st in nxt st (18)

Fasten off.

Using the remaining back loops, pull up a loop of yellow in the back loop next to the sl st, ch 1, start in the same st you joined in:

Rnd 5: (sc in nxt 2 st, inc) x6 (24)

Place marker in last st you did.

Rnd 6: (sc in nxt 2 st, invdec) x6 (18)

Rnd 7: (sc in nxt st, invdec) x6 (12)

Rnd 8: (invdec) x6 (6) sl st in front loop of nxt st.

Fasten off leaving a tail, thread onto needle and come up through the front loops of each st on the last rnd, pull tight to close hole, find a loop nearby and go through it but don't pull through all the way- leave a loop and then go through the loop from behind, pull tight to make a knot, then weave the end through the middle of the magic ring and through the flower. Cut excess yarn close to the work and use the end of your sewing needle to push end inside.

Petals:

With the yellow part facing you, pull up a loop of white in the last green sl st you did, (ch 7, start in 2nd ch from hook, sc in nxt 6 st, sl st in nxt st on the green part) repeat all the way around until you have 18 petals. For the last petal, sl st in the same st that you did a sl st in with the green. Fasten off and weave in all the ends.

Stem:

Take the florist wire and measure 5cm from the end, bend it at this point, then push the short end into the middle of the magic ring on the back of the daisy and come out in between that round and the next round, pull through and bend the short end close to the long end. Take the florist tape and wind it tightly around both pieces of wire to begin with and then the single piece of wire, pulling it down at an angle as you wrap it around the whole length of the wire. The tape will become sticky when it's stretched and with the heat of your hands. When you get to the bottom, leave a couple of inches of extra tape and cut it at an angle.

Take the green yarn and start winding it very tightly around the stem, starting several inches in from the end (leave this for securing later on). The yarn will stick to the tape but make sure to do this as soon as you've put the tape on because it loses its stickiness after a while. When you get to the bottom cut the yarn so that there's 1cm left and cut it in line with the end of the wire, use the excess tape to wrap it around the yarn to secure it.

Thread the green yarn at the top onto the needle and make sure it's wrapped around as close to the back of the daisy as possible, then find a loop nearby and fasten off around it in the same way as you fastened off before, then weave the end through the flower and trim the excess.

Now you can bend the wire at a slight angle at the point where the wire stops being double thickness.

The daisies are finished and you can now display them in your favourite vase. I'd love to see a photo of your daisies, you can share them with me by tagging me on instagram @laura_wilson01
