Fasten off leaving long tail for sewing.

Middle piece:

In light yellow:

Rnd 1: 6 sc in mr (6)

Rnds 2- 17 (16 rnds): sc in every st (6)

Fasten off leaving tail, close hole by coming up through the front loop of each stitch from the outside, pull tight to gather all the stitches together. Fasten off by finding a loop nearby, go through it but not all the way, leave a loop and go through the loop from behind, pull tight to make a knot. Weave in end and trim the excess close to the work, use the end of your needle to push the end in.

Measure 5cm in from the end of the florist wire and bend it at this point at a right angle, then push it through the end of the yellow piece and back out of a space in the round below, bend it close to the long piece and push the short piece through a st on the white piece, in the middle. Pull through so that it sits at the bottom. Wrap the left side of the white piece around the yellow piece so it's covering it, then wrap the right side of the white piece over the top. Use a pin to secure it.

Weave the white tail through the back of the stitches and come out at the point where the other side is tucked underneath. Sew these two pieces together using loops from the surface of the stitches on the last round of the top piece (not the edge), then as you move down you can start sewing the edges together all the way to the bottom so it's closed around the yellow piece. Fasten off and weave in ends, including the one at the back from the magic ring.

Take the florist tape and wind it tightly around both pieces of wire to begin with and then the single piece of wire, pulling it down at an angle as you wrap it around the whole length of the wire. The tape will become sticky when it's stretched and with the heat of your hands. When you get to the bottom, leave a couple of inches of extra tape and cut it at an angle.

Take the green yarn and start winding it very tightly around the stem, starting several inches in from the end (leave this for securing later on). The yarn will stick to the tape but make sure to do this as soon as you've put the tape on because it loses its stickiness after a while. When you get to the bottom cut the yarn so that there's 1cm left and cut it in line with the end of the wire, use the excess tape to wrap it around the yarn to secure it.

Thread the green yarn at the top onto the needle and make sure it's wrapped around as close to the bottom of the flower as possible, then find a loop nearby and fasten off around it in the same way as you fastened off before, then weave the end through the flower and trim the excess.

The Calla lillies are finished and you can now display them in your favourite vase. I'd love to see a photo of your flowers, you can share them with me by tagging me on instagram @laura_wilson01
