Check out my Youtube video tutorial for this pattern: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-JOuHVn0Uo

My dog really likes squeaky toys so I had the idea to buy a plastic squeaker online and make this toy for him. I know that dogs tend to chew things and rip them apart, especially puppies, so I'd recommend you supervise your dog when using this toy. My dog stopped doing that to his toys and now he likes to make them squeak and hold them in his mouth and run with it when I throw his ball. I've used cotton for the orange part because it's more durable than acrylic yarn.

The main part of the carrot is 6 inches long but if you'd like it to be bigger then keep increasing in multiples of six and then follow the same pattern of decreasing and spacing rounds until you have 6 stitches on the last round.

Materials needed:

  • Worsted weight (US)/ Aran (UK) mercerized cotton yarn in orange

  • DK acrylic yarn in green

  • DK acrylic yarn in black (small amount for the eyes and mouth)

  • 3mm crochet hook (used for both yarns)

  • Stuffing

  • 3.5cm plastic squeaker

  • Scissors

  • Stitch marker

  • Sewing yarn needle

Abbreviations (US crochet terms):

st- stitch

ch- chain

mr- magic ring

sc- single crochet

inc- increase

invdec- invisible decrease

Repeat instructions in brackets the number of times stated

Fasten off leaving long tail. Thread tail onto needle, come up through the front loops only of each of the 6 stitches on the last rnd, pull tight to gather the stitches together and close hole. Find a loop nearby, go through it but not all the way, leave a loop and go through it from behind, pull tight to make a knot and this fastens off. Go back through a space nearby and weave tail through the body, avoiding the squeaker. Trim excess and use the end of your needle to push end inside and hide it.

Leaves- make 3:

In green:

Leaving a long tail at the start of the slip knot, ch 26, starting in 2nd st from the hook: (sc in nxt st, inc in nxt st) repeat all the way down the chain (ending with a sc in the last ch). Fasten off leaving tail the same length as the starting tail. Thread finishing tail onto needle and sew to the top of the carrot on the second round by picking up loops of the orange and going through the end of the green piece, when you get to the end, tie the two long green tails together in a double knot. Weave both ends inside, trim excess and hide ends. Sew the other 2 leaves on in a circle on the second round, next to the first one.

The eyes are made using french knots, see my Youtube video for how to do the eyes and mouth.
