Check out my Youtube video tutorial for this pattern: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-o2DtuYFwpU

Materials needed:

DK yarn in yellow, orange and light brown

3mm crochet hook

Stitch marker

Sewing needle that's big enough for the yarn

Small amount of stuffing

Scissors

Abbreviations (US crochet terms):

st- stitch

ch- chain

mr- magic ring

sl st- slip stitch

sc- single crochet

inc- increase

invdec- invisible decrease

hdc- half double crochet

tr- treble crochet

BLO- back loops only

Shell

In yellow:

Rnd 1: 6 sc in mr (6)

Rnd 2: In BLO: 2 hdc in every st (12)

Rnd 3: In BLO: (dc in nxt st, 2 dc in nxt st) x6 (18)

Rnd 4: In BLO: (tr in nxt 2 st, 2 tr in nxt st) x4, dc in nxt 2 st, hdc in nxt 2 st, sc in nxt st, sl st in nxt st (22)

Fasten off leaving tail for sewing. Weave in orange tail through to the inside, tuck short tails inside.

Pull up a loop of orange in first leftover front loop from round 1, ch 1, sl st in same st, sl st in every front loop of every round, creating a spiral.

Body

In light brown:

Rnd 1: 6 sc in mr (6)

Rnd 2: (sc in nxt st, inc) x3 (9)

Rnds 3- 13 (11 rnds): sc in every st (9)

Stuff- use the end of your hook or something small to push stuffing inside.

Rnd 14: (sc in nxt st, invdec) x3 (6)

ch 2, make 2 hdc in each space in between the rounds on the edge (10 spaces- 10 hdc increases), sl st in last space on the 3 rnd away from the end (the head).

Fasten off.

Repeat same on other side edge in reverse: Pull up a loop in first space (on the 3rd rnd away from the end, in line with the other side), sl st in same space, make 2 hdc in nxt 10 spaces, ch 2, sl st in first hdc st on other side. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Sew the shell to the body, with the last orange slip stitch at the back, using the BLO of the yellow stitches and picking up brown loops from the surface of the hdc stitches, and then the sc stitches in the middle of the body. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Curve the head upwards slightly. With the head end nearest to you, push hook in the space between the first and second rnd and come out again in between that rnd and the 3rd rnd, cut a length of light brown yarn approx 12cm long, fold in half so the ends meet, pull loop through, wrap ends around the hook and pull through the loop. Pull on the ends to tighten, trim both strands so that they're about 1.5cm long.
